Mother Reveals Why She Takes Her Three-month-old Son To The Spa Every Week

Shanelle Cotton, 26, is a first-time mom and says taking her kids to the spa has helped a lot. She and baby Romi, three months old, regularly make the trip to Bridgnorth from their home in Birmingham, West Midlands. Shanelle, who runs her own business, says the spa has helped her meet other mothers and learn Romi’s soothing tips. “Going to the spa is very beneficial for both of us,” she says. As a new mom, it’s helpful to have a reason to get out of the house.

It means we have more structure to this day. For Romi, it’s a really lovely atmosphere for him, it’s very calm. “He’s never wanted to shower at night, but since we’re gone, I can rearrange the spa at home and he loves it.” Lauren Edwards, 28, who runs a spa called ‘Lollitots’ describes it as the ultimate tranquil experience. She also offers separate infant massage classes and infant yoga sessions. “Lauren had so much knowledge that she passed it on to us,” says Shanelle.

She’s been doing spa treatments for years, and she also takes classes in kids’ massages and yoga and the like. She showed me how to massage Romi’s jaw when it started teething. It’s crazy that she knows so much even though she doesn’t have any children of her own. “It’s great to meet and chat with other moms because I can ask them questions and make new moms.” Each spa session includes an hour and a half with the infant in the tub, with soothing lighting and songs.

“There’s all these flickering lights, and you’re just spending time with your kids while they’re in the tub, playing with them and giving them a bath,” Shanelle tells people how to send them a message. Then we do a little bit of babysitting. Romi always sleeps very well after we sleep, which makes him very comfortable. It just sets the mood for everyone and helps him and me relax.”
