Twins have different birthdays after mom gave birth 15 minutes apart – brother in 2021 and sister in 2022

A set of California twins will celebrate their birthdays on different days, months, and years after being born just minutes apart on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

On Friday evening, parents Fatima Madrigal and Robert Trujillo of Greenfield welcomed a son named Alfredo into the world on New Year’s Eve at 11:45 p.m. local time.

Then 15 minutes later, the clock struck midnight and Alfredo’s twin sister Aylin was born on New Year’s Day.

Aylin weighed 5 lbs., 14 oz., while big brother Alfredo weighed 6 lbs., 1 oz.

Mom Madrigal said: “It’s crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays,” as per the Natividad Medical Center‘s Facebook post.

“I was surprised and happy that she arrived at midnight.”

Dr. Ana Abril Arias, a family doctor at the Natividad Medical Group, added, “This was definitely one of the most memorable deliveries of my career.

“It was an absolute pleasure to help these little ones arrive here safely in 2021 and 2022,” she said. “What an amazing way to start the New Year!”

Since 1980 the U.S. birth rate for twins has risen significantly. As of 2019 the birth rate for twins in the U.S. was 32.1 per 1,000 live births, as per Statista.

Alfredo and Aylin have three older siblings — two girls and a boy. Madrigal said her oldest son is thrilled to have a brother, and the rest of their family is excited to meet the new additions, as per People magazine.

Such a wonderful way to start the New Year! Help us congratulate the parents of these beautiful babies and share this story.
