It’s no secret that you do not need a large home or spend a fortune to create an incredibly cozy and welcoming place to live.
The motivated fourteen-year-old Ellie Yeater created the ultimate DIY-project.
Ellie, from West Virginia, had some free time during the summer, so she decided to renovate an old camper from 1974.
She declared the end goal as a “glamper”, rather than just a regular camper. The girl saved up $500 from birthdays and chores, in order to buy a camper. Ellie’s mother describes her as an “out-of-the-box kinda kid”. It indeed doesn’t sound like Ellie did not want to get her hands dirty.
For a price of $200, she discovered a camper in a classifieds paper. Ellie used the rest of her budget to gather materials for the renovation including paint, flooring, fabric and of course some interior items and other decorations. Fortunately, her father decided to throw a little cash in himself to get Ellie a wood and rubber roof roll.
The low price came with a cost, as there was plenty of work needed to be done.
“It needed work… lots of work,” Lori said.
The Yeater family has a unique connection with the outside. They live on a big 60-acre ground, and Ellie’s brother Isaiah has already built his little spot: a small cabin where he and his friends can hang out.
That's where Ellie got her inspiration from, even though she wanted her project to be cuter. She also ensured that it would be strategically placed close to the house so that she could stay in range of the Wi-Fi signal as well as have access to electricity. Ellie has got her priorities straight.
Before she could start decorating and renovating, the camper had to be cleaned out thoroughly. Her grandad, Lawrence, was more than glad to help her out with carpentry and painting.
Afterwards, the plans for the cuter stuff could begin. The teen chose an adorable pastel-style color scheme of pink and blue. She made sure to paint almost everything inside the cabin to give it a special identity.
It was not only the paint that made a huge difference, as the girl also installed an entirely new floor alongside new furniture and self-made curtains. Decorating the place with several personal belongings was undoubtedly a given.
Just outside of the camper, a small pathway was also installed.
“I love that the path isn’t straight,” Lori said, “just like life.”
Ellie's grandfather helped with the rough renovation work, but her grandmother was also willing to lend a hand. She gave her granddaughter a bunch of small items which blended in perfectly with the “glamper” style.
Ellie saved up enough money to build the ultimate warm place for herself and her friends, and you have to admit, the result is truly astounding.
