Near the rural town of Shriner, Texas, sat a man inside a courtroom who awaited to hear his fate. He beat to death the man that allegedly raped his daughter.
The man ended up avoiding having charges leveled against him.
It took a grand jury in Lavaca County to decide not to press any charges against the father. He had killed Jesus Mora Flores, 47, when he saw him allegedly molesting his 5-year-old daughter in a shack on the family farm.
District Attorney Heather McMinn explains the decision:
“Under the law in the state of Texas, deadly force is authorized and justified in order to stop an aggravated sexual assault or sexual assault.”
She had gone out with her brother to feed the chickens. The farmhand, Flores, ended up picking up the girl and carrying her to the secluded shack. The brother ran back and told his dad. He ran in the direction where he heard the screams, and there in the secluded shack he witnessed the unthinkable.
The child was with the man and they both were without underwear. The dad went to town on Flores, beating him to the point of him losing consciousness. The dad then called 911.
Even though he was enraged, he was concerned that Flores might not survive. Here was his 911 call:
“Come on! This guy is going to die on me! I don’t know what to do.”
He even offered to drive Flores to the hospital to help save him.
After the incident, Sheriff Micah Harmon refused to press charges. He’d defer the decision to a grand jury.
The Sheriff said the father was “very remorseful” even though the man did what he did. The Sheriff said the following:
“You have a right to defend your daughter … the girl’s father acted in defense of his third person.”
Thankfully the father is not having any charges leveled against him and no doubt many would understand his rage and would do the same if they ever encountered something so horrific.
