The tiny premature twin lies on his big brother’s chest. But there’s a lot more to this picture.

A young boy helps his father take care of his premature twins - with a lot of skin contact. This is exactly the key concept from Swedish professor Uwe Ewald who takes premature babies out of the incubator at his hospital in Uppsala once they reach 1. 5 lbs so that they can lie on the chest of their parents as often as possible.
The doctor posits that a parent's chest regulates the body temperature better than an incubator. The child can relax more easily and gain weight more quickly. Furthermore, this reduces the risk of infections in premature babies.
The Swede hopes for widespread international adoption of this practice at neonatal intensive care units.
