Who in the world would not like to own a cool secret room? I am surely up for one. Artist Biancoshock knows this, so he came up with a unique way of turning the deserted manholes in Milan’s Lodi district into hidden miniature subterranean dwellings. These secret rooms are breathtakingly beautiful and after having a look at them, you would wish to be an elf’s size to experience the hospitalities of these rooms.
his project to make us fantasize about fairy world, Biancoshock has a much deeper motivation for his work. The absolute purpose of converting the manholes into beautiful rooms is to make us think about those who are forced to live in tightly-confined spaces. He took his inspiration from the miserable situation of hundreds of people who are forced to inhabit Bucharest’s sewer systems in Romania.
The three rooms form an enchanting series called Borderlife and each one of them depict a different domestic setting. One has a small shower installed in it while another has been transformed into a miniature kitchen including a complete set of tiny culinary accessories.
On his website, the artist states, “If some problems cannot be avoided, make them comfortable.”
