HIS MORNING TURNED INTO A BLOODY MESS WHEN HE WAS TRIED TO OPEN THE FRONT DOOR

Freak accidents can happen to anyone, and when they do, they’re really unpleasant. Redditor bike_racklearned that the hard way last month when he was running out the door for work. The freak accident that wreaked havoc on him almost cost him his arm…and his life. But the worst was avoided because of his quick-thinking wife.

THIS WAS THE SCENE IN THEIR KITCHEN AFTER THE FACT. HERE’S HOW HE EXPLAINS IT IN HIS OWN WORDS:

“I was running out the door for work, I was too lazy to reach for the door handle, and pushed our storm door on the glass portion. The door was caught on the latch, and my arm went right through. I cut my bicep and brachialis muscles completely in half, along with basically every blood vessel besides the brachial artery.”

IN CASE THAT SOUNDS A LITTLE TECHNICAL, IT WAS A VERY BAD CUT. LUCKILY, HIS WIFE SAW WHAT HAPPENED AND WASTED NO TIME PUTTING HER FIRST AID TRAINING TO WORK.

“My wife tied a tourniquet around my arm and death-gripped my arm to attempt to stop the bleeding while calling 911. My wife said she could see the bone when the paramedics were inspecting it.”

THEY GOT TO THE HOSPITAL BEFORE ANYTHING WORSE COULD HAPPEN. THIS IS WHAT HIS ARM LOOKS LIKE NOW, TWO WEEKS AFTER THE ACCIDENT.

That’s going to be one gnarly scar.

Talk about the power of quick thinking! That could have been very, very bad. If bike_rack’s brachial arteryhad been cut, he probably wouldn’t be alive today.
