These Nail Conditions Can Indicate a Serious Disease. DON’T Ignore Them!

Your fingernails can provide a lot of information for your overall health, from possible malignancy to nutritional status. Nail abnormalities are often caused by skin disease and infection, but they may also point to more general medical conditions.

1# White Nails

Predominantly white nails with darker rims usually mean that there’s a liver problem, possibly hepatitis. If the fingers are also jaundiced, this is just another indication of liver malfunction.

2# Yellow Nails

Fungal infection is the typical cause of yellow nails. Moreover, the nail bed may withdraw and the nails may thicken and crumble as the infection gets worse. Rarely, yellow nails can be a sign of a more serious disease such as severe thyroid disorder, lung disease, diabetes or psoriasis.

3# Pale Nails

If your nails are turning extremely pale, this is a sign of a serious condition including:
anemia,
congestive heart failure,
liver disease

4# Bluish Nails

Bluish nails can be an indicator of oxygen deficiency in the body, which could point to a lung problem, such as emphysema. This nail condition is also linked to some heart problems.

5# Pitted Nails

Pitted or rippled nail surface could be an early sign of psoriasis or inflammatory arthritis. This is often accompanied by discoloration of the nail, whereas the skin under the nail turns reddish-brown.

6# Cracked or Split Nails

One of the signs of thyroid disorder is dry, brittle nails that frequently crack or split. If this is accompanied by a yellowish tint, the condition is possibly a result of a fungal infection.

7# Dark Lines Beneath the Nail

Dark lines beneath the nail require immediate medical attention because they are often caused by melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer.

8# Gnawed Nails

Although biting your nails is normally just a nasty habit, sometimes it can indicate chronic anxiety or obsessive-compulsive disorder, which could be treated successfully.
