A woman desperately pulls the skin off this dog. 6 weeks later you won’t believe your eyes.

Some dog rescue organizations are well known for working real wonders. At least, that's how it seems when you see what condition they find many dogs in and then what they look like just a few weeks later.
This is just the case with Animal Aid Unlimited. In a small car, on a backseat lies a small dog, more dead than alive. He is hardly skin and bones and beset with a bad case of mange.

Due to the illness, his skin has become so calloused that it looks like he has turned into stone. Every step he takes is akin to torture, his skin rupturing at every movement and bleeding.

"He looks like a crab in a hard shell, a mummy discovered after thousands of years," write his rescuers. While most dogs are afraid of their rescuers and run away immediately, this exhausted little, furry critter is simply too week. She is half-starved and completely emaciated. Her only movement is a tired twitching to drive the flies away.

"It's like she was in a type of deliria," tells one of her rescuers. It's only after her rescuers offer her a treat that she shows signs of life.

After calming her, the rescuers climb into the car and begin to pet her raw skin carefully. They name the dog "Alice" and the little one rejoices over every single sign of affection.

Yet nevertheless, Alice is still very nervous. When the rescuers try to pick her up she snaps at them immediately  because she is terribly afraid. But they wrap her in a blanket and carry her to safety.

After she arrives at the shelter, Alice is paralysed from fear and ignores her rescuers completely. But the animal lovers don't give up: they begin to lotion her with an ointment to soften her "stone skin." Afterwards, they have to carefully remove the pieces of dead skin.

Her eyes are still full of fear while the rescuers free her body from the flakes of dead skin. But every day her skin turns better and after some time, Alice begins to react more calmly when the helpers come to  care for her.

After six weeks Alice is hardly recognizable. Her fur has grown back and she has returned to the wonderful, golden dog with the waggly tail that she always was. Her eyes are still severe, yet she is on the path towards the life that she deserves.

In the meantime, the little, shy Alice has become a real heartbreaker!

Here you can find her story in video form:

Every year Animal Aid rescues hundreds of dogs and every single one has their own sad story. Like Alice, many other dogs can contract this disease which desperately needs care from humans to be cured. And rescue organizations like Animal Aid Unlimited are often their only hope. To help dogs like Alice all over the world, share this story with everyone that you know. These wonderful furry critters, who simply had some bad luck, must not be forgotten.
