This video should have never actually been recorded or seen. It shows the death of two young English men: Michael Owen (21) and Kyle Careford (20). They filmed the video themselves. But their families want everyone to see this recording.
The two friends were driving in a car together in April: Kyle is driving while Michael films with his cell phone. While the two joke with each other, Michael keeps repeating that Kyle should slow down. "Dude! We're gonna drive 90!" and those are the last words of the 21-year-old and father of a 4-year-old. They collide full speed with a church.
The cellphone continues to record after the crash. You can hear a woman rushing to help them. "Can you hear me? Can you hear me?" Yet Michael and Kyle died on impact. The 2 race through a 30 zone at 90 mph. Lying in their blood are untaken drugs scattered everywhere - Kyle did not have a driver's license.
Half a year later, the families of the 2 have decided to publish the video.
"I really don't know what inspired them to do what they did," says Michael's mother Kat Owen. "But the two are responsible for their decision that they made that night. But if this video stops one person from making the same mistake, then it has done some good. I hope that it gives some youth the impression that even just a little fun can have catastrophic consequences."
"I want all the young people out there to be aware that they are not invincible, that they appreciate how valuable their life is for them and others," she adds. "I want young drivers to consider how much pain they can cause others."
