A farmer from Michigan this week stumbled on the bones of a woolly mammoth! James and his neighbor Bristle Trent were putting a drainage pipe in a soybean field on the property when they came upon the remains.
He said that they knew it was something that was out of the norm. They thought at first it was an old fence but what they found was absolutely stunning!
The paleontologist Daniel Fisher was able to confirm that the bones belonged to a mammoth, an unearthed mammoth.
He was buried for a long time in the field of a farmer southwest of Ann Arbor.
This week may present clues about the lives of early humans in the region. They believe that humans a long time ago were here and may have slaughtered and stashed the meat so they could come back later for it.
If scientists confirm that is the case, it could mean that humans were in Michigan earlier than we thought.
